The challenge in marketplace pricing

In marketplace selling, being listed is not the same as being seen. Many sellers list the same product, but the buyer sees one offer. The seller who owns that offer wins the Buy Box.

For a multi-marketplace seller, every product on every channel sits in a live auction that never closes. Price is the most visible lever, and it moves all day.

Our client sold across several marketplaces with a catalogue too large for anyone to track by hand. Two realities defined the problem:

The Buy Box is winner-takes-all.
When a competitor takes it, the listing rarely sells, even with strong reviews and stock. A lost Buy Box means lost revenue that day.

Competitor prices change many times a day.
Most serious competitors use automated repricers. A winning price in the morning can be beaten by midday.

The client’s process was manual. A team member reviewed prices, found lost Buy Boxes, compared competitors and set new prices. A human checking in cycles will always trail a machine reacting continuously.

The cost was missed sales and skilled people stuck on repetitive monitoring instead of sourcing, range planning and growth.

Our solution: Buy Box repricing automation in three parts

Before building, we agreed on four requirements with the client: continuous awareness of prices and Buy Box status, correction within minutes, no repricing outside approved limits, and one place to see everything.

Codiotic delivered three components to meet them.

1. The monitoring engine.
It tracks the client’s prices, competitor prices and Buy Box ownership on every listing. Repricing without good market data is just guessing faster, so this layer comes first. It runs continuously and replaces the periodic manual check.

2. The repricing automation.
When the client loses the Buy Box, or is about to, the system reprices the listing automatically, wherever the platform allows.

We built it to work within each marketplace’s rules, which keeps seller accounts safe. Every change stays between a benchmark price floor and ceiling. The floor protects margin. The ceiling stops prices becoming uncompetitive.

3. The central dashboard.
One view across channels shows Buy Box ownership by listing, price gaps against competitors and competitor moves as they happen. The team can spot patterns, such as a competitor that keeps undercutting certain products.

This is how we approach every project at Codiotic. Start with the real operational problem, then build practical software around it. Explore our AI and automation services to see more.

Inside the repricing workflow

01

Observe

The monitoring engine tracks prices and Buy Box status across every listing.

02

Decide

The system compares the client’s position with the market and with the approved floor and ceiling.

03

Act

The automation reprices within those limits, where the platform allows.

04

Show

The dashboard shows the team what changed and why.

The loop runs around the clock. People set the rules and review results. The system does the repetitive watching and adjusting.

Technology used

● Price intelligence and competitor price monitoring  ● Buy Box ownership tracking  ● Rules-based repricing with price floor and ceiling  ● Central multi-marketplace dashboard

Project outcomes

A full-time task now runs around the clock

Work that once occupied a person for a working day now runs continuously, including nights and weekends when competitor repricers stay active.

Corrections within minutes

The gap between losing the Buy Box and responding shrank from a manual cycle to a short automated reaction.

More Buy Box wins, with margins protected

Every change respects the floor and ceiling. Buy Box repricing automation helped the client gain sales without giving away profit.

The team also moved from daily price chasing to higher-value work. The business now has a pricing process that does not depend on someone remembering to check.

Key lessons from the project

Guardrails make Buy Box repricing automation trustworthy.

Clear floor and ceiling limits remove the fear of costly pricing errors.

Visibility matters as much as automation.

If the team cannot see what the system sees, they cannot trust it.

Respect platform rules.

Automate only where the marketplace allows it. This protects the seller long term.

Automate the repeatable, keep the judgment.

Machines watch prices. People set strategy, floors and ceilings.

Sellers who list on one or more marketplaces, compete with automated repricers, have catalogues too large for manual checks and need to protect margins.

Does the system work on every marketplace?

It reprices automatically wherever the platform allows. Marketplaces set different rules, so Codiotic builds automation that works within each platform’s terms.

Who built this system?
